Kitchen Cabinet Chotskies

One of the reasons I do this blog is to document the small things that make me happy.  So the other day I realized that this little arrangement of chotskies on top of my kitchen cabinet makes me happy every time I look at it.  I happened to love wire baskets and little glass containers that look like they could have come from a 1920's science lab.  And I was super excited when I found that pear painting at Home Emporium a few years ago - it just works so perfectly with the dried gourd.

One of the other nice things about this little arrangement is that it happened over a period of about 6 years.  I started off with just the pitcher and just this past summer I couldn't bear to throw the dried pods away and I looked up and found the perfect spot. I often find myself in such a hurry to "finish" a room, but I think the best things happen slowly and organically over time.  So I hope this inspires you to slow down and appreciate the little things that make your house a home.

I have never visited a blog before, but was drawn to search out more of your art by the Zen Birds book I just received for my Jan. bday. My friend gave it to me because I love to paint, do art & watch birds. It is a lovely style that inspired me to use it with my special education students who are currently studying the birds of ME. It has enough flexibility for them to be successful - they have done some delightful work on a favorite bird... a combination of your work and Ed Umberly....

Now that I have scanned your blog, your eye for images, colors and composition will draw me back again. I too am drawn to visual images and colors...I gather them around me, but often am at a loss as to what to do with them.. There are only so many images, projects one can have around the house without it becoming clamorous... I will continue to visit your blog as you continue to post things that delight you and catch your eye... here in ME. it is often stones and rocks that fascinate.

any thoughts on making your birds into blank cards? and how about our darling chick-a-dee? don't they live in Ohio? I plan on signing up for your birding journal...thank you for a window into your lovely work.

Hey Vanessa! I LOVE that pitcher, it is so beautiful! I am really glad you have time to blog again, I missed it last fall!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I recently talked to my publisher about making some Zen Birds notecards so I will let you know when that happens.

Also, Becky, did you know Hugh (from exhibits) made that pitcher and gave it to us for our wedding. I love looking at it everyday.

P.S. I love Ed Umberly and haven't thought of him for years. Must go google him now!
